Growing up and Keeping on

Having a teenage daughter might be quite tougher than I expected. With all the weekends sleep over, movies, cellphone accessories, micro mini skirts, hanging blouses, curfews, latest gadgets, extra allowance and a plea for a driver’s license, I sometimes find myself wondering how to get through with her. Though a compromise of keeping an excellent grades for all the benefits she’s enjoying, still I don’t feel at ease with the changes she has been going through. Last week I almost passed out when I saw a couple of diamond nose rings on her pretty nose. I let it go after she had presented her report card with no less than A+ on all her subjects. My husband said, he saw a lot of teenagers with pierces ears and noses and it’s just fine, she will outgrown the fad. My heart still aches. I was shocked one day when she came home with a cartilage earrings, she said she keeps the pearls and crystal earrings I gave her and she will use them when she will apply for a job.

Maybe I was an old fashion mom and I am caught in the maze of bringing up a child in a new generation. Good thing my husband understands beyond what I can comprehend and he often explains to me, we need to trust our daughter and sometimes give in, all the while she has been performing well in the university. I tried to keep that in mind when I saw the gold body jewelry she has when she left for school. No matter what she looks like, she will still be my baby.
